200 to Tango
The sixth annual
The 2008 World Tango Festival in Buenos Aires, Argentina opens with 200 dancers.
In total, some four hundred and forty couples from 23 countries are scheduled to take part on the week long competition.

"For me, coming to Argentina to study to dance Tango is something very special because in Japan there is no classic Tango that exists here in Buenos Aires.

Japan's belly button festival
Residents of the Japanese city of Shibukawa took to the streets with
their stomachs painted in bright colours. The belly button festival brings young and old together for plenty of navel gazing.
While the festival is not an ancient one, it is based on a traditional party performance that required people to paint a face on their stomach
and pretend it was a head.
The belly button is traditionally - but not always - painted in

September 23 - Competitors hope to shred the competition as Brighton hosts the 2008 UK Air Guitar Championship.
As contestants worked their way through the heats to the final audience cheerometer each performance grew more extravagant.
In its fifteenth year the Championship in Brighton sees "Cozza" take his third consecutive title.

Sydney fashion show a washout as models go underwater
SYDNEY (Reuters Life!) - Australian fashionistas plumbed new depths on Wednesday, staging an underwater fashion show with lots of flailing
arms and a mass bad hair day. With no catwalk in sight, nine sharply dressed models climbed up a ladder and plunged into a large tank of water
in Australia's first public underwater fashion shoot, delighting tourists and passers-by in Sydney's picturesque Circular Quay.
"I felt sorry for the hair and makeup artists because they spent so long doing my hair and makeup and as soon as I got in it just washed
away, but it's all fun," said Jaynie Seal, a television weather presenter who was
part of the show, sponsored by women's magazine Cosmopolitan and
skincare label Neutrogena. Braving cool spring temperatures, Seal and another TV presenter, Jason Dundas, waved at the cameras underwater and tried to look

Thousands of
revellers threw tomatoes at each other and bathed in tomato juice in celebration
of Tomatina.
12,000 kg of tomatoes were squashed and hurled to honour the town's patron
saint, St. Luis Bertran. Shopkeepers covered their premises with plastic

Among the events were the springboard competition, stock saw, standing block chop, underhand chop and hot saw.

Lumberjacks put their skills to the test at the European Timbersports championships in Tyrol, Austria.
Sep 17 - A traditional Beijing rickshaw is given a makeover with the addition of the rear body of a Mini Cooper.
Named "the other rickshaw", the vehicle features four gold-plated dragons and other Chinese decorations.
It was designed by Beijing's BMW car dealer which sells Minis who the rickshaw will attract the attention of visitors to Beijing following the 2008 Olympics.
The traditional Beijing rickshaw had become a special attraction in the Beijing city tour with more than 1000 rickshaws being used to transport tourists around the city. read more...
